Though the sixth-generation Ford Bronco has been on sale in China for a while now, it was recently joined by an all-new model in that same market, equipped with both all-electric and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains, and even a Basecamp variant with a pop-up roof for camping purposes. The Ford Bronco Basecamp is quite unique in more ways than that, as it’s designed to be the perfect vessel for folks that like to get outdoors and spent the night in their vehicles. Now, we’re getting a look at its unique pop-up roof in action.

In this recent video shared by Car News China, we get to see the Ford Bronco Basecamp’s pop-up roof as it’s deployed, tilting upward 360mm, or just over 14 inches to add some additional headroom inside. Those that pre-order the new Ford Bronco with a deposit of 1,000 yuan ($140 USD) will get this One-Touch Roof Camping Package for free, though otherwise, it’s a 12,000 yuan ($1,700 USD) option. For that outlay of cash, Ford Bronco Basecamp customers get a few other features, in addition to the electric-lifting roof, which is activated with one button on the infotainment screen.

Those features include a camping kitchen that’s built into the tailgate, containing a fold-town table, cup holders, a bottle opener, and a magnetic strip that’s designed to hold knives and similar cooking tools. There are also one-touch automatically folding front seat headrests, and the seats are designed to fold flat to create a space perfect for sleeping – Ford even offers a Bronco-branded mattress for the SUV, in fact.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the new Chinese Ford Bronco will be built by the Jiangling Ford (JMC) joint-venture for that local market, and both the EV and EREV will utilize BYD FinDreams lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs.

The EREV comes with a turbocharged 1.5L gas range extender with two electric motors – a 130 kW unit up front and a 180 kW piece in the rear – as well as a 43.7 kWh battery pack. Pure EV range comes in at 220 kilometers (137 miles), or 1,220 kilometers (758 miles) with the gas extender added to the mix. As for the EV, it utilizes a 105.4 kWh battery pack, along with a 130 kW electric motor up front and a 202 kW unit out back, delivering 650 kilometers (404 miles) of max range.
