Ford Engine Block Heater Recalled Over Risk Of Fire

Ford Motor Company is recalling select engine block heaters sold as accessory parts over a potential fire risk. The Blue Oval previously recalled select 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC, 2016-2023 Ford Explorer, 2019-2020 Fusion, 2019-2024 Ranger, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, Escape, 2021-2024 Bronco, Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles equipped with these faulty engine block heaters.

The defect: in affected units, the engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

The hazards: an electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Components: engine block heaters sold under part numbers GJ7Z-6A051-BA and GJ7Z-6A051-AA.

The fix: owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until their vehicle is remedied. Dealers will contact customers with instructions to return the part for a full refund or dealers will replace the block heater once a newly designed part is available, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25SA5.
