We’ve seen our fair share of automotive memorabilia cross various auction blocks over the years, oftentimes commanding lots of attention – and bids. These types of things run the gamut from signs to toy models to peddle cars and old gas pumps, to name just a few, and there are even entire auctions dedicated to such objects. Then there are wooden display models, which have become quite popular in recent times, largely thanks to some YouTube channels that show that tedious process as it’s completed from a raw piece of wood. Now, those interested in such a thing can score this Ford GT40 wooden display model at auction.
This Ford GT40 wooden display model is currently being auctioned off at Bring a Trailer, and it’s a nifty piece with loads of details. It’s the creation of a fellow named Olivier De Schrijver, though the seller just acquired it this past August. Regardless, it was indeed sculpted from a piece of wood, though it utilizes a pair of steel axles. In terms of the body, it features some nifty details including doors that open, faux side and rear scoops, a ventilated front hood, mesh rear grille, and acrylic headlight covers and windows.
The GT40 rolls on a set of wooden wheels and tires, the latter of which even feature a tread pattern cut out in them. The interior is quite realistic as well, sporting two bucket seats with carved stripes, a dashboard, a center console, a steering wheel, instrumentation, a door-sill-mounted shifter, a handbrake lever, and patterned door panels.
Overall, it took a reported 60 hours to put this Ford GT40 wooden model together, and the whole thing measures in at a substantial 48 inches long. If nothing else, this cool Ford GT40 replica would make for a nice display piece in any Blue Oval fan’s collection, whether they can shell out millions for the real thing or not.
