As Blue Oval fans are already painfully aware, Ford has been issuing an alarming number of recalls over the past couple of years, and that trend has thus far spilled over into 2025 in a major way. In fact, through the first half of this year, Ford had already set a new record for automotive manufacturers issuing the most recalls in an entire year, with a full six months to go. While there are some truly legitimate reasons for many of these recalls, the fact of the matter is, the latest statistics continue to shed a negative light on The Blue Oval.
According to BizzyCar’s latest Recall Report, automakers collectively issued 96 recalls covering roughly 8.5 million vehicles in the U.S. in Q3 2025, which was the highest quarterly total since Q1 2024. To date, 19.3 million vehicles have been recalled, with 8,494,262 of that tally coming in Q3 alone – a 16 percent increase versus Q2. Alarmingly, Ford ranked first by a large margin among individual manufacturers, recalling 5,041,241 vehicles – or around 60 percent of the total – primarily for critical systems such as brakes, fuel delivery, back-over prevention, and electrical components.
“The sheer volume of recalls this quarter highlights how complex modern vehicles have become,” said Ryan Maher, CEO of BizzyCar. “Safety-critical systems like brakes, fuel, and electronics must be addressed promptly to prevent accidents. OTA updates are helpful, but there’s no substitute for a technician inspecting the vehicle in person. Dealerships are on the front line of keeping drivers safe and building long-term trust.”
Ford has worked to improve its initial quality and cut down on recalls in various ways, hiring specialists, completing more rigorous procedures during new vehicle launches, and implementing tougher tests to spot problems and fix them earlier in that process. This has improved metrics for 2025 model year vehicles, but older models are still plaguing the automaker. Meanwhile, as Ford Authority previously reported, many of these recalls are being issued to address incorrect repairs completed under prior recalls, stemming from the consent order the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration secured with Ford in November 2024.
