The Ford Mondeo (and Fusion) disappeared from much of the world years ago, but the sedan lives on in China, regardless. There, the Ford Mondeo remains a popular entity among consumers, not to mention a vehicle that has also accumulated its fair share of accolades. Much of that recognition stems from the Mondeo's proven reliability, resulting in several high rankings in J.D. Power's China Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) in recent years - a trend that continues with the release of the 2025 China VDS.
As Ford Authority previously reported, the Ford Mondeo was the top-ranked mid-size sedan in the 2023 and 2024 installments of the J.D. Power China Vehicle Dependability Study, and now, it has made that a three-peat. The Mondeo once again topped all mid-size sedans in the latest version of the China VDS, but this time around, it did tie with the Volkswagen Passat, both of which ranked ahead of the third-place Toyota Avalon.
The J.D. Power VDS measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles over the past six months by owners of 13- to 48-month-old vehicles. It covers 177 specific problems grouped into nine major categories - exterior; interior; driving experience; features/controls/displays (FCD); infotainment; climate; seats; powertrain; and driving assistance, with a lower score reflecting higher vehicle quality.
In that regard, Changan Ford - a 50:50 joint venture between FoMoCo and Changan Automobile - ranked third among all mass market brands in China with a score of 172 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). It wasn't all good news for the Chinese automotive market, however, as this year's study found that overall, design-related issues caused an increase of seven in terms of PP100.
“The industry performance of the Initial Quality Study and Vehicle Dependability Study has been on a steady decline the past two years,” said Elvis Yang, general manager of the auto product practice at J.D. Power China. “Notably, VDS quality issues now emerge earlier within 1-2 years of ownership, and this should be a wake-up call for all stakeholders. Long-term reliability, durability and big data validation were once ICE vehicles’ core edges over NEVs. Yet under dual pressures of faster electrification and price cuts, how ICE makers maintain quality has become critical.”

This is a car I would buy. An SUV or a crossover, NEVER!!!!
On the other hand, in CHINA and NOTHING, is exactly THE SAME!!!!
Many North American car shoppers would buy this instead of cookie cutter crossovers and SUV’s if it were offered here and made here.
That's a beautiful car! I love our 2017 Fusion and would love to buy another to replace it, even if it's a Hybrid (mine is ICE). Bring it home, Ford!!!
What a good looking car. It would sell like the proverbial hot cakes in the states. Ford made a big mistake cutting the Fusion from its line up. Bring it back.
Simple reason we’ll never see it here is Ford couldn’t come close to the profit margins they make on trucks.
Pretty attractive effort. Too bad this design group couldn't be put to work on Fords basically ugly collection of SUV's.
Dammit Ford!! Bring this to the states!!
