The New York City Police Department is one of the oldest such entities in the U.S. – having been established way back in 1845 – and it’s also the largest. With more than 40,000 people employed by NYPD, that agency responds to around a half-million reported crimes annually, and as such, it also has quite a wide array of vehicles within its arsenal, too. Many of those vehicles are of the Blue Oval persuasion – including models that aren’t even produced and sold anymore – which is the case with this Ford Taurus Police Interceptor.
In this short clip recently posted to Instagram, we can see that this particular Ford Taurus Police Interceptor cruiser has been slapped with a rather humorous bumper sticker, however – likely unbeknownst to the officer that’s driving it around town. That bumper sticker is the classic “student driver” one, asking others to “please be patent,” given the fact that the person behind the wheel isn’t terribly experienced with driving, in general.

Whether or not the officer that spends their fair share of time behind the wheel of this Ford Taurus takes the joke lightly or not remains to be seen, but we imagine that most folks will find it funny, regardless. In any event, we wouldn’t be surprised if this particular car is nearing retirement anyway, given the fact that NYPD just purchased 140 Ford Police Interceptor Utility hybrids to add to its increasingly-green fleet.
At the same time, NYPD has also committed to EVs, purchasing and upfitting over 100 Ford Mustang Mach-E crossovers for law enforcement use, even though it isn’t currently offered in official police guise. The department plans on beefing up its hybrid fleet to 1,500 units over time, which is an interesting footnote given the fact that it previously announced it was going all-electric by 2035. Regardless, that’s still roughly a decade away, so there’s still plenty of time to get there.
