NYS Thruway Authority Justifiably Pissed After Ford F-150 Crash

It was mere months ago that a Ford F-150 driver assaulted a Department of Transportation (DOT) worker in New York, exiting their pickup and punching that person - who was outside flagging traffic at the time - right in the helmet. He wound up being charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, harassment, operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, and failure to obey a flag person, making for a suitable ending to a silly and unnecessary example of road rage. Now, another Ford F-150 driver has drawn the ire of another New York-based agency.

That agency is the New York State Thruway Authority, which recently posted some photos on Facebook, along with some alarming news regarding an incident that occurred not too long ago. Last week, one of the NYS Thruway Authority's attenuator trucks was out protecting a crew working on the side of I-87 in Yonkers, and thankfully, that rig did its job in protecting those folks, because the Ford F-150 driver clearly wasn't paying attention.

Rather than move over into another lane as required by law, the Ford F-150 driver kept on going and barreled into that attenuator truck, causing serious damage to both vehicles. Luckily, none of the workers were hurt as a result of this rather nasty-looking wreck, and the driver of the F-150 only suffered minor injuries, too. Regardless, that driver is now facing a litany of charges from New York State Police - including speeding, unsafe lane change, and driving with a cell phone.

Unfortunately, this sort of incident is quite common across the U.S. these days, with folks seemingly paying less and less attention to the roads when they're out driving around. It's also quite common to see drivers not move over when crews are working on the side of the road - whether that be for road maintenance purposes, ambulances responding to accidents, or police conducting traffic stops.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  • I was a Trooper in the NYS Thruway back in the 70’s. Drivers will drive right by several signs stating lane closures and they keep right on going. Then they come to the closure, sit up, looking around like a dummy, and swerve into the open lane without looking, sometimes hitting the vehicle beside them! That usually meant a series if tickets, including reckless driving. Cell phones are a real issue, and are not enforced as much as they should! Actually, the phones should be sized and held as evidence because they do show the time of the violation, etc. They would be returned after the case is disposed of. Why have laws if they are not vigorously enforced? This would also, maybe, wake some if these dummy’s up! You noticed that I said, maybe!
