Somehow, Ford Mustang Mach-E Shrimp Frunk Returned

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of press photos over the years, which are provided by automakers like Ford for, well, the press to utilize when writing about new, existing, or future models. Most of the time, those images are pretty normal, simply showing off the exterior, interior, and perhaps engine bay or underpinnings of those models, but every once in a while, we’re treated to something bizarre or downright humorous. That was the case with the Ford Mustang Mach-E previously, and now, one such press photo of the EV crossover is making a bit of a comeback.

The photo we’re referencing showed off quite a lot of cocktail shrimp on ice in the frunk of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which seemed a bit absurd to most – after all, who wants their frunk to smell like shrimp? Funny enough, that wasn’t the only image Ford provided to demonstrate the Mach-E frunk’s potential catering capabilities, as others depicted it with everything from groceries to chicken wings in that same area.

Thus, we got a good chuckle when we saw that EV expert Jace Craft-Miller recently showed off a Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally hanging out at a Blue Oval tailgate ahead of this past weekend’s Detroit Lions game, complete with – you guessed it – a bunch of shrimp, on ice, in the frunk. The tailgate itself was powered by a Ford F-150 Lightning, but to us at least, the return of the legendary shrimp frunk is the real story here.

It is worth noting that the 2025 and up Ford Mustang Mach-E doesn’t have quite as much shrimp-holding capacity as its predecessor, given the fact that The Blue Oval had to take away around 40 percent of that capacity to make room for the EV crossover’s new, standard heat pump. We imagine that most folks will happily take that tradeoff in exchange for less range loss in colder temps, however.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
