Changan Ford Chongqing Transmission Plant – Chongqing, China

The Changan Ford Chongqing transmission plant is transmission manufacturing facility for the Ford Motor Company which operates under the Changan Ford administration. Located in the city of Chongqing, in southwest China, the Chongqing transmission plant currently shares the assembly of the Ford 6F35 six-speed automatic transmission with the Ford Motor Company Van Dyke Transmission plant, in Michigan.

Established in 2014, the Chongqing transmission plant is also in charge of putting together the Ford 6F15 six-speed automatic transmission used in the Ford EcoSport, Ford Focus and Ford C-MAX. When it opened, it was Ford’s first transmission plant for the Asia-Pacific region.

With all its assembly plants combined, Changan Ford is the largest manufacturing center outside Detroit, with facilities located in Chongqing, Hangzhou and Harbin. This page shows information about the Changan Ford Chongqing transmission plant.

Historical Timeline

• 2012: Chinese government approves the Changan Automobile and Ford Motor joint venture, which will then spawn two different entities: Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd and Changan Ford Automobile Co. Ltd.
• 2013: Changan Ford receives a US $500 million investment for a new engine plant in Chongqing. This where the Ford 1.6L Sigma engine will be built.
• 2014: Changan Ford receives a US $350 million investment for a new transmission plant in Chongqing. This marks Ford’s first transmission plant for the Asia-Pacific region.
• 2015: Changan Ford acquires Harbin Hafei Automobile Group Co, a subsidiary of Chongqing Changan’s parent company, for US$1.1 billion. Following the acquisition, the plant received significant upgrades.
