A temporary part-time employee at Ford’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant shot and killed himself at the facility Friday morning after a labor dispute, reports local ABC affiliate WXYZ. The man has been identified as 21-year-old Jacoby Hennings from Harper Woods – a city just to the east of Detroit, Michigan. The incident resulted in no other injuries.
Woodhaven Deputy Police Chief Scott Fraczek says that a “disgruntled” Mr. Hennings came into the plant Friday, and “a labor relations issue” transpired. “At some point, he presented a gun,” says Fraczek. “He did not fire at anybody. When the officers were called, as they were approaching the subject, he pulled a gun and killed himself.”
It’s not known what the dispute was about, but Woodhaven police say that Hennings had not been fired from his job.
The plant was evacuated as the situation unfolded, and police searched room-to-room to ensure that there was not a second shooter. The bomb squad was called in to investigate a package near the subject, but that package was not deemed to be a threat. Production at the stamping plant was shut down for the rest of the day.
