Last year the Ford GT held the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) lap record, but only momentarily. The record was broken rather quickly by the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, which surprised a lot of performance enthusiasts, and upset a lot of die-hard Ford fans at the same time. The lap record at VIR has since been broken by the new widowmaker Porsche 911 GT2RS, but that hasn’t resolved the civil war between Ford and Chevy. Earlier this week we saw a Ford GT attempt a top speed run, and now we see one drag race and roll race against a C7 Corvette ZR-1. The results will bring some reassurance to Ford fans who regularly support the new Ford GT supercar.
The Ford GT strikes back in the battle between the blue oval and the bow tie, but this time on a 1/2 mile runway. Chevy fans will continuously emphasize the gargantuan price gap between the Ford GT and the Corvette ZR-1, but as we see in this video, the big issue with the ZR-1 is traction. In both races the ZR-1 struggled to put the power down, meanwhile the Ford GT stuck to the surface in its VMAX setting and walked away from the ‘Vette. Drag race or roll race, the ZR-1 can’t touch the GT.
Our assessment may be a tad harsh, but if you watch the video you’ll understand what we mean. Okay, it could come down to driver error, or surface conditions, or any other number of factors, but the results of this video were very clear. The ZR-1 was equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission, too, so skip the “driver can’t shift” excuse.
Brooks Weisblat of Drag Times piloted the Ford GT in this video and we have a feeling that a ZR-1 versus GT battle will happen again soon, even if it isn’t on his channel. These two cars are arguably the most savage American performance cars on the market, and it’s only fitting that they are being staged next to each other – despite the price gap.
A very cool example of a famous machine.
Winning in epic four-wide fashion.
The convenience of a camper without the trailer.
They're more powerful than the cars than won Le Mans.
A sign of things to come?
A rather interesting combination.

If the U.S. had the Ford GT as their "Man-on-the Moon" inspiration, the astronauts would have arrived sooner, but the mission cost would been double. In the price/performance race, the Chevy Corvette is still the King, even against the incredibly fast imports.
WOW you found a race the gt could beat the corvette. You only pay twice as much for it
