2020 Ford Edge: Here’s What’s New And Different

The Ford Edge is The Blue Oval brand’s mid-sized crossover SUV (CUV), slotting between the compact Ford Escape and larger Ford Flex and full-size Ford Explorer in the lineup. The first-generation Ford Edge arrived for the 2007 model year, and was followed by a second generation for the 2015 model year. That second-gen model received a refresh for the 2019 model year. And now, the 2020 Ford Edge will receive several slight updates and changes, as follows.

Trim Levels

To begin, the overall trim level lineup remains unchanged, starting with the base Edge SE, followed by the SEL and Titanium, and topped by the Edge ST. However, the SEL trim level is no longer offered with the 200A equipment group, which was the bare-bones equipment group for the trim.

Instead, all SEL trim level models now start with the 201A equipment group, which was previously the up-level equipment group required to unlock optional packages like the Convenience Package and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist, Cold Weather Package, and more.

Mechanical

From a mechanical standpoint, the 2020 Ford Edge remains identical to the 2019 model year. The standard model remains powered by the twin-scroll turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine doling out 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Edge ST draws motivation from the twin-turbo, direct-injection 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine, which produces 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines mate to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with FWD as standard and AWD being optional. All-wheel-drive is standard on the ST.

Exterior

The 2020 Ford Edge brings a host of exterior changes, starting with the addition of optional black side rails for the roof rack on the SE trim level. There’s also six new exterior colors offered, including (paint code in parentheses):

• Atlas Blue* (B3)
• Dark Persian Green* (D9)
• Desert Gold* (G6)
• Iconic Silver* (JS)
• Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat (D4)
• Star White Metallic Tri-Coat (AZ)
• * Metallic paint

Meanwhile, three exterior colors are being deleted from the range, including:

• Baltic Sea Green
• Stone Gray
• White Gold

The wheel design lineup now includes the following:

• 18-inch Sparkle Silver-painted aluminum – standard on SE
• 18-inch split-spoke Sparkle Silver-painted aluminum wheels – standard on SEL
• 18-inch bright-machined aluminum wheels with Premium Dark Stainless-painted Pockets (64M) – optional on SEL 201A and Titanium
• 19-inch Luster Nickel-painted aluminum – standard on Titanium
• 20-inch bright-machined aluminum with Premium Dark Stainless-painted pockets (64U) – optional on Titanium 300A¹
• 20-inch polished aluminum – included on Titanium Elite Package (51E) on 301A
• 20-inch bright-machined aluminum with High Gloss Black-painted pockets – standard on ST
• 21-inch Premium Gloss Black-painted aluminum (642) – optional on ST 401A², included in ST Performance Brake Package (66P)³

Interior

Inside the cabin, the Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DETAC) is now standard on the SE trim level, making the feature standard across the line.

In addition, the 2020 Ford Edge no longer offers a single-CD head unit for Titanium and ST trim levels. That marks the discontinuation of the CD player on the Edge model as a whole, as the SE and SEL models lost the feature for the 2019 model year.

Finally, the 2020 Ford Edge SE no longer offers the Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror, neither as standard, nor as optional equipment. That trim now gets a manual day/night mirror instead.

Driver Assist Technology

The 2020 Ford Edge driver assist tech is unchanged from the 2019 model year. Standout features still include Auto High-Beam Headlamps, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane-Keeping Assist.

Packages

The 2020 Ford Edge also sees several package-level changes.

For starters, the SE Driver’s Package is now standard with the 100A equipment group. That package includes:

• 10-way Power Driver’s Seat (Fore/Aft, Up/Down, Recline, Tilt, Lumbar)
• Reverse Sensing System

There’s also a new Titanium Elite Package (51E), which is optional on the 301A equipment group and includes:

• 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with 245/50R20 all-season (A/S) tires
• New door inserts with Brunello finish and Brick Red accent stitching
• Front and rear bumpers with body-color finish and Bright Chrome Insert in front
• Front and rear floor mats with Brick Red embroidered Edge logo in front, plus Brick Red accent stitching
• Instrument panel Appliques, Intrecciato Bright Aluminum
• Side lower cladding with body-color finish and Bright Chrome inserts
• Upper grille with Bright Chrome accents and Bright Chrome surround

Note that the Titanium Elite Package also includes Ebony upholstery seating with Brunello Perforated inserts. The package also has limited exterior paint color options, and is not available with the optional 18-inch wheel-and-tire package (64M/TCM).

Further changes to the 2020 Ford Edge packages include the addition of the Convenience Package to the 400A equipment group (the base Edge ST equipment group), and the Class II Trailer Tow Package with Trailer Sway Control (53G) now requires AWD on SEL and Titanium models.

Finally, the SE Fleet Driver’s Package (51F) and previous Titanium Elite Package (51K) are deleted.
