Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks due to a safety issue with the tire pressure monitoring system, as first reported by Reuters.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the tire pressure monitoring system light may not activate when intended, therefore rendering itself unable to notify owners when tire pressure is too low.

The hazards: a vehicle that cannot adequately inform an owner of low tire pressure could possibly exhibit poor handling, leading to a loss of control, leading to the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: Body Control Module.

Affected vehicles: select 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks with 20-inch or 22-inch tires built at the Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.

Number of vehicles affected: 2,886 pickups with:

  • 2.666 pickups in the United States
  • 220 pickups in Canada

The fix: dealers will can install a software update to fix the issue. Alternatively, Ford will be sending out an over-the-air update within the next 30 days for all Lightning owners.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin June 28th, 2022. Owners are encouraged to make sure their tire pressure matches the figures provided on the Tire and Loading informationlocated inside the driver-side front door jamb.

  • Less than 3000 sold. Far cry from 70,000 that were supposed to be built? Out-of the 3000ft. How many have media channels, famous, or dealers who are ripping customers off??

  • It’s starting already - Ford should be embarrassed but you can’t embarrass someone that has no shame. Ford is always plagued with recalls and then Ford points the finger at some obscure bender issue
