Ford Motor Company has abandoned its trademark for “EZ Air” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has learned.
Originally filed on July 8th, 2020, under serial number 90041288, this application contained the goods and services description of “land vehicle motor doors.” That trademark was subsequently abandoned on July 30th, 2024.
The Ford Authority Take
Prior to the debut of the sixth-generation Ford Bronco for the 2021 model year, The Blue Oval showed off all sorts of ideas for different kinds of doors that would be available for the reborn SUV. However, amid supply chain constraints and the onset of the pandemic, some of those designs wound up being canceled, while others – including the tube door kit – were delayed in reaching the market. When this trademark was originally filed, it seemed likely that Ford intended to use the EZ Air name for at least one door design for the Bronco.
Ford was seemingly contemplating the use of EZ Air for either donut doors that were seen on early concepts that ultimately didn’t make it to production – though the aftermarket has since debuted something similar – or perhaps even the tube doors that did ultimately come to fruition in the Ford parts and accessories catalog. It’s also possible that EZ Air was going to be used to refer to something completely different, but now, that no longer seems to be the case, unless a new trademark filing appears at a later date.
Regardless, aside from countless aftermarket offerings, Ford Bronco owners can purchase tube doors from The Blue Oval itself. Two-door owners can find them under part number M-19008-BTD2, while the four-door kit is listed under M-19008-BTD4. The doors are constructed from two-inch black powdercoated steel and feature paintable handle covers, are corrosion-resistant, and utilize the Bronco’s factory latches, though they’re also designed for off-road use only.
