‘Robocop’ 1987 Ford Taurus LX Replica Up For Auction

Many undoubtedly remember the movie RoboCop, which was easily one of the most popular movies of the 1980s. The sci-fi action film depicted a futuristic world where a murdered police officer is brought back to life as a cyborg law enforcer in Detroit, and it certainly resonated with critics and movie-goers alike – raking in $53.4 million in ticket sales and earning a number of notable accolades, including an Academy Award. Now, fans of RoboCop and the Ford Taurus, in general, can bid on this rather cool movie replica.

This 1987 Ford Taurus LX is currently up for sale at eBay, and it looks a lot like the ones that starred in RoboCop, too. The seller built it himself as an homage to that movie car, one sporting matte black paint, a front push bar with auxiliary lighting, a light bar and spotlight on the roof (which isn’t working nor wired up at the moment), Detroit Police logos on the doors, and blacked-out hub caps with new tires.

Inside, one will find the same sort of onboard computer present in the movie car, plus a CB radio, a cage separating the front and rear, power windows, power seats, power door locks, and power mirrors. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.0L V6, mated to an automatic transmission. The seller notes that this Ford Taurus movie replica runs great, and it was recently treated to new fuel pump hoses, belts, and a power steering pump.

It’s been several years since we last saw a Ford Taurus RoboCop replica pop up for sale – back in 2019, in fact, though that one didn’t look to be quite as nice as this example. We do come across quite a few first-generation Taurus models at collector car auctions these days, however, including – most recently – a super rare 1987 Taurus MT5 wagon, transformed into a tribute of sorts to the “Family Truckster” that starred in the movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
