As many undoubtedly recall, The Andy Griffith Show was easily one of the most-watched TV series of its time, which lasted from 1960-1968, spanning 249 episodes across eight seasons. Andy Griffith himself stars as Andy Taylor in that series, a sheriff in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. Most notably for Blue Oval fans, a number of Ford vehicles also starred in the show, including Fairlanes, Galaxies, and a few Custom sedans. As one might imagine, we’ve seen some replicas of those cars surface over the years, a list that includes this 1963 Ford Galaxie 500.

This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Mayberry Police car replica is slated to be auctioned off at Mecum’s Harrisburg, Pennsylvania sale next week, and it’s a pretty cool build for fans of The Andy Griffith Show to bid on. This particular replica is designed to look like the Mayberry Police car driven by Don Knotts in the TV series, who starred as Barney Fife. As such, it features Mayberry Police graphics on the doors, a black and white paint job, steel wheels with hub caps, a whip antenna, and a siren up top.

The interior is rather simple, with covered bench seats and not much else, but it’s tidy, nonetheless. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 352 cubic-inch V8, which in this case is mated to an automatic transmission.

The engine bay is quite clean as well, making this an attractive and cool piece to tool around in, take to car shows, or just put on display as part of a broader tribute to the show it’s designed to pay homage to.

As one might imagine, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Ford Galaxie Mayberry Police car tribute – rather, another example popped up for sale a few years ago, looking much like this one. Aside from that, Blue Oval-based TV tributes are quite common, with the Batmobile being one of the most popular of that bunch.

  • When you visit Mt. Airy, NC and take a guided tour, you are driven around in these. I forget all the model years they have but for sure one was a '63. I'm also sure this isn't it.
