The Ford Explorer was a groundbreaking vehicle when it debuted as one of the very first on-road-focused SUVs to exist, and it has now lived through six generations, proving to have real staying power in that segment. In more recent times, we’ve watched as many older Explorer models have wound up on collector car auction sites, selling for increasing amounts of money, dating back to the first-generation. However, even later generations are getting in on that trend these days, including this 2007 Ford Explorer XLT.
This particular 2007 Ford Explorer is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 35k miles on the clock, and it resided with the original owner until last month, when the selling dealer acquired it. As such, the SUV – which has also lived its entire life in California – remains in stellar condition, with no noted flaws marring its Pueblo Gold Clearcoat Metallic paint, nor the original 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are now wrapped with 245/65 Sailun Terramax H/T tires.
Inside, one will find Camel cloth covered seats that show a little wear, along with amenities including air conditioning, cruise control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an AM/FM/CD stereo, and power windows and door locks.
Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 4.0L V6, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 210 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The SUV features AdvanceTrac traction and stability control with Roll Stability Control (RSC), as well as anti-lock brakes via four-wheel discs.
In addition to this fourth-generation Ford Explorer, we’ve seen a couple of Sport Tracs hit the auction block as of late, but not the SUV version, at least. That list includes a 2008 model with just 9k miles showing on the odometer when it surfaced for sale last October, as well as a 2010 model with 38k miles.
