As Ford Authority reported earlier today, Ford CEO Jim Farley just announced that the automaker will make a rather major EV-related announcement on August 11th, though he didn’t provide too many additional details about that unveiling. It’s possible that the announcement will pertain to the company’s low-cost EV platform that has been in development for a few years now, and is expected to underpin a variety of future models. Regardless, Farley is already comparing it to perhaps the biggest moment in Blue Oval history.
“On August 11th – that will be a big day for all of us at Ford,” Farley said during the automaker’s Q2 2025 earnings call with investors. “We will be in Kentucky to share more about our plans to design and build a breakthrough electric vehicle and a platform in the US. This is a Model T moment for us at Ford, a chance to bring a new family of vehicles to the world that offer incredible technology, efficiency, space, and features.”
As Ford Authority previously reported, the Louisville Assembly plant in Kentucky is scheduled to undergo a major retooling late this year as it’s prepped for the production of an all-new electric vehicle. The automaker didn’t confirm those details at first, but later, it submitted plans to the city outlining precisely that. FoMoCo also confirmed that “the first affordable vehicle off this new platform will be a mid-sized electric pickup launching in 2027 that is expected to cater to customers who want more for their money – more range, more utility, more usability.”
The low-cost mid-size Ford EV pickup will use lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that are being developed with licensed technology that will be built in the U.S., all with an effort to keep costs as low as possible – a revelation that came from Lisa Drake, Ford’s vice president of Technology Platform Programs and EV Systems. It’s possible those batteries will come from the BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site in Marshall, which will begin building those exact types of EV batteries starting in 2026, with the EV pickup expected to launch in 2027.
Such an endeavor is critical for Ford’s survival, according to Farley, who previously called China’s superior technology “the most humbling thing I’ve ever seen.” The executive also believes that Ford’s future is at stake if it can’t figure out a way to better compete with its burgeoning Chinese rivals, too.
The system could make adjustments automatically as needed.
Offered on pretty much every Ford truck, including the Sport Trac.
A super nice example of the big SUV.
The speed's there, but circumstance hasn't let it shine.
Well, at least they looked up when they did...

Except that the Model T was a success, Jim, and this will be the opposite.
Dude, do you have anything better to do than to attack EVs?
We're running out of easy fossil fuels, so we should be working on new power trains.
No, we're not running out of fossil fuels, not even close.
The Ford Model T was not known for its "incredible technology, efficiency, space, and features", Farley... it was known for being an affordable vehicle with at least passable quality. Neither of which Ford are capable of any longer...
Compared to a horse and buggy, you bet.And affordable to boot.
Farley should have been gone a long time ago.
Farley will announce a vehicle that will be stripped down like the Slate Truck/SUV, so then he can say it's "affordable". But when the consumer wants some additional options, it will cost them a lot.
Again, having an EV and a truck that doesn't have enough range, doesn't make sense. Make an EV that's a daily driver for most consumers and continue to focus on their (ICE) trucks, as those are money makers for them, but also do what trucks do.
He and the Ford design team aren't listening to the consumers and what they want.
Where is the misconception that an EV truck takes away 'focus' from an ICE truck? Ford's a massive company with ICE, Pro and EV design and engineering teams. What ICE truck do you want from Ford that you 'think' you currently can't get because of EV focus? Maverick, Ranger, F150, F250, F350, F450 all multiple ICE powertrain options. Total nonsense talking point.
Farley so laughable the Model T was an affordable well built car. The Model T was so inexpensive everyone could afford one and they ran forever. Farley and Ford have already said the price of their new Revolutionary (Fords words) EV has went from $25k to $30k I'm betting the price will be closer to $40k. Not AFFORDABLE and will have more of a Edsel effect than a Model T effect.
