The Ford Transit Custom has held the crown of best-selling van and light commercial vehicle (LCV) in the UK for so long at this point it’s hard to remember when that wasn’t the case. The Blue Oval’s dominant van is Europe’s preferred commercial vehicle of choice, in general, giving it a strong counterpunch when combined with the F-Series lineup in the U.S. The Ford Transit Custom landed on top of the UK’s van/LCV sales charts in January, February, March, April, and May to kick off 2025, and that unsurprisingly didn’t change in June, either.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Transit Custom once again ranked atop the UK van and light-duty commercial vehicle charts by recording 4,555 sales last month, well ahead of the second-place Ford Transit at 2,878 units sold. The Ford Ranger ranked ninth with 961 sales, while the Ford Transit Courier also cracked the top 10 with 902 sales.
As far as the first half of 2025 goes, the Ford Transit Custom topped the LCV list in the UK by recording 24,826 sales – giving it a dominant lead over the second-place Transit at 13,886 registrations. The Ranger ranked third with 10,327 sales, giving The Blue Oval a podium sweep through the first six months of the year. As for the overall UK LCV market, it actually decreased by 12.1 percent to 156,048 units across the first half of the year, as June marked the seventh consecutive month of drops – this time, by 14.8 percent.
“Half a year of declining demand for new vans reflects a difficult economic climate and weak business confidence and the fact that this downturn comes just as industry invests heavily to expand its zero emission LCV offering is particularly concerning,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “Decarbonization remains a shared ambition but with the EV market more than a third below this year’s target, bold measures are needed to drive demand. Accelerated CV infrastructure rollout, quicker grid connections and streamlined planning are now critical.”
