The Ford Aerostar – like a lot of minivans – was once a common sight on our roadways, but these days, it isn’t often that we see one in any kind of condition. Regardless, from time to time, a nice, lower-mile example of the popular van surfaces for sale at auction, though not terribly often, anyway. However, this 1986 Ford Aerostar XLT is easily one of the nicest examples of the discontinued van that we’ve come across in a long time, and it just so happens to be up for sale with a reasonable price tag.
This 1986 Ford Aerostar is up for grabs at Classics and Beyond in Wayne, Michigan, and it has a mere 39k miles on the clock. It had previously remained in the possession of the original owner, at least, until the dealer acquired it, and today, the van looks no worse for wear – literally. Rather, it’s quite the time capsule with nice black paint on the outside, coupled with a set of ET snowflake-style wheels wrapped with Firestone tires – a period-correct if not original look, indeed.
The same is true of the super-sanitary gray cloth interior, which has enough seating for the whole family (of seven, at least), and it has clearly been well-cared for over the years. There are a couple of additions here such as a wooden center console of sorts up front, along with the typical wrapped steering wheel, but otherwise, there just aren’t many bones to pick inside this stellar van.
In terms of power, that comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.0L V6, which is mated to an automatic transmission. With such little mileage, a one-owner history, and regular maintenance, it’s no surprise that the selling dealer claims that this Ford Aerostar runs and drives like new. For an asking price of $11,995, it seems like a pretty solid deal, too.
Aside from this super clean Ford Aerostar, we’ve only come across a couple of other low-mile gems in recent years – a 1995 XLT E4WD with 57k miles, as well as a 1996 model with 54k miles.

Run away….run away!
I’m sure your parents tell you that all the time, so follow their advice.
When this van came out I hated its looks. My father bought it and then I realize it was quite nice inside and big. He used it like a taxi and it was very good at that with relatives, family, and what not. Very comfy. I now realize there was nothing like it.
