Both the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable have been enjoying a bit of a renaissance in recent months, largely buoyed by the fact that people are interested in purchasing nice, lower-mile examples of those models. As such, we’ve seen plenty of those types of things surface for sale as of late, which is great news for shoppers that want things that, well, doesn’t exist on dealer lots as brand new vehicles anymore. The latest to join this ever-growing list is a 1996 Mercury Sable LS sedan, which just popped up for auction with 55k miles on the clock.
This 1996 Mercury Sable is up for grabs at Bring a Trailer, and remains in great shape despite having lived under several owners and in two different states thus far. It’s finished in Vibrant White Clearcoat paint with a scrape on the front bumper and some discoloration in that same area, while the taillight badging has been removed. Otherwise, the sedan looks quite tidy on the outside, and is fitted with the original 15-inch aluminum wheels wrapped with a mixed set of 205/65 Sentury, Kumho, and Falken tires.
Inside the cabin, one will find Saddle leather power-adjustable front seats that show the typical creasing we generally see at this age, along with amenities including automatic climate control, cruise control, the OEM AM/FM/cassette stereo, a trunk-mounted CD changer, and the JBL sound system. There is a crack in the dashboard, however, along with some discoloration, but otherwise, it’s a nice place to be.
In terms of power, that comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.0L Duratec V6, factory-rated at 200 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to an automatic transmission.
This is the first time we’ve come across a nice, low-mile example of a Mercury Sable from this particular generation, but we have seen plenty of Taurus examples surface for auction lately. That includes a 1996 Taurus wagon with 44k miles, as well as a 1999 SE wagon with 42k miles.
