The Ford Focus may still be alive in places like Europe – where it will exit production this coming November – it was discontinued in the U.S. years ago. As such, those looking to score a nice version of that particular model must look to the used car market. On the bright side, there are quite a few nicely-kept, lower-mile Ford Focus models out there for the taking via collector car auctions, and that list now includes this 2002 ZX3 hatchback.
This 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 21k miles on the clock, and it remains in excellent condition, as one might expect. It’s finished in Egg Yolk Yellow paint accompanied by features such as fog lights, black bodyside moldings, and a heated rear window with a wiper. There aren’t any flaws noted in its exterior finish, nor the hatchback’s six-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, which are currently shod with 205/50 Hankook Ventus tires.
Inside the cabin, one will find an equally tidy Medium Graphite cloth interior with patterned inserts, though there aren’t too many amenities to be found – air conditioning, an in-dash six-CD changer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and cruise control, but not much else, as was typically the case with these cars.
Under the hood lies the naturally-aspirated 2.0L Zetec 16-valve inline-four cylinder engine, factory rated to produce 130 horsepower, which in this case is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox, while braking duties are handled by front discs and rear drums.
Along with this very nice ZX3, we’ve certainly seen our fair share of nice Ford Focus models on the auction circuit as of late. That list includes a 2004 ZX3 with 43k miles, a 2003 ZTW wagon with 29k miles, and a 2004 ZX5 that’s one of just 1,079 produced for that particular model year, making it a pretty cool find.
