Earlier this month, photos of a slightly camouflaged Ford F-150 Lightning surfaced on the internet, which was one of three EV pickups spotted towing 20-foot trailers in Arizona. It was entirely unclear what those pickups might be – it’s possible they’re packing new battery packs (such as the long-awaited lithium-iron phosphate unit), or other changes that might be part of the upcoming model year changeover. Now, Ford Authority has spotted what may be one of the very same pickups from that group, potentially previewing a change coming to the 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup.
In these photos, we can clearly see that this prospective 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning pickup is finished in the exterior color known as Marsh Gray, which is already available on a variety of other Blue Oval models – including the ICE-powered Ford F-150. However, that new color isn’t the only interesting thing present on this particular prototype, either.
Rather, it’s also sporting the same upgrades as a previously-spotted F-150 Lightning prototype, which seem to be part of some sort of new off-road-oriented package, such as what’s offered on Tremor versions of other existing models. That other pickup was seen wearing a blue line running through the center portion of the grille, but in this case, the entire front grille is covered in camo, so we can’t tell if that’s also the case here.
The blue model was also equipped with running boards that looked to be nearly identical to the units present on the F-150 Tremor, providing easier access to the cabin and protection from certain obstacles, though they aren’t present here. What we can see on this potential 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning prototype are its 18-inch wheels, which are available as an option on the F-150’s STX appearance package, and they’re wrapped with 275/65R18 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, offered throughout the F-150 lineup.
Thus, it certainly seems like we could be looking at the future Ford F-150 Lightning Tremor, though this prototype could be something else entirely – perhaps a Rally version like what’s offered on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, or some other sort of off-road-focused package or trim.
As Ford Authority recently reported, the next-generation version of the F-150 Lightning (or whatever it might be called) was just pushed back for the third time, with production now slated to start in 2028, so it’ll be a while before the EV pickup receives any substantial updates, at least.
