Ford E-Tourneo Courier Among First EVs To Receive UK Incentive

The UK is one of a few places that’s aiming to phase out the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in the coming years, with stair-step EV sales mix requirements leading up to a total ban. However, with EV market share failing to meet required levels of growth under those same rules, Ford has long been asking the government to bring back incentives for electric vehicles, and it finally obliged mere weeks ago. Now, the Ford E-Tourneo Courier is among the first all-electric vehicles in the UK to qualify for those new incentives.

The Ford E-Tourneo Courier qualifies for the full £3,750 ($5,060 USD) electric vehicle grant in the UK, meaning that it now starts out at £28,440 ($38,379). It’s joined by the Ford Puma Gen-E, which also qualifies for the full credit, meaning that it now starts out at £26,245 ($35,416 USD, which is £345/$465 less than the Puma Hybrid), or £290/$391 a month across 48-months, compared to the partially-electrified version at £324/$437.

Both models were able to qualify for this incentive based on the UK government’s strict sustainability criteria, which encompasses a vehicle’s manufacturing and the brand as a whole. As of now, that criteria hasn’t been revealed to the public, but Ford did say that it involved measuring emissions at the joint-venture Ford Otosan Assembly plant in Romania, where both are produced, taking into account renewable energy as well. Both the Ford E-Tourneo Courier and Puma Gen-E, along with the E-Transit Courier, entered full scale production there just this past March, too.

“We welcome the government’s decision to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and are proud that Ford’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the full EV grant,” said Lisa Brankin, Ford UK Chair and Managing Director. “With a £3,750 saving available on the Puma Gen-E plus the convenience of the Ford Power Promise, we’re helping to make the switch to electric simpler, more affordable and more rewarding.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
