Ford F-150 Lightning Tremor Possibly Spotted Testing: Photos

Though it debuted back for the 2022 model year, the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning has thus far not been offered with any sort of off-road-oriented package or trim level – save for the one-off Switchgear – which is somewhat surprising given The Blue Oval’s intense focus on such things. With several off-road-focused EV pickups on the market at the moment, that certainly seems likely to change, and now, we might have another indication that it will, as Ford Authority just spotted what could be a Ford F-150 Lightning Tremor prototype out testing.

On the outside, this potential Ford F-150 Lightning Tremor prototype is wearing just a little camo on its hood and bedsides, and for the most part, it looks just like any old existing version of the EV pickup. However, there is a blue line running through the center portion of the grille, which is something we haven’t seen before.

Moving down the side, we see a set of running boards that look to be nearly identical to the units present on the F-150 Tremor, providing easier access to the cabin and protection from certain obstacles. In terms of rolling stock, this prototype is fitted with the same 18-inch wheels available as an option on the F-150’s STX appearance package, and they’re wrapped with Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, offered throughout the F-150 lineup.

Those tires measure in at 275/65R18, the same size that’s standard on the Lightning, albeit via on-road rated HT tires. Thus, it certainly seems like we could be looking at the future Ford F-150 Lightning Tremor, though this prototype could be something else entirely – perhaps a Rally version like what’s offered on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, or some other sort of off-road-focused package or trim.

As Ford Authority recently reported, the next-generation version of the F-150 Lightning (or whatever it might be called) was just pushed back for the third time, with production now slated to start in 2028. Regardless, a handful of prototypes were spotted towing trailers just recently, which could be next-gen models wearing current bodywork, or perhaps units testing out a new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Of course. Wasting more time on nonsense instead of what matters.
