The Ford Ranger has become a true global phenomenon in recent years, expanding far beyond its home market in the U.S. to over 180 across the entire globe today. One of the biggest of that bunch is South America, which is also where the Ford Ranger is produced at the Pacheco Assembly plant in Argentina. That plant has been building Rangers for the local and export markets since 1996, meaning that the mid-size pickup is now reaching a notable milestone in the same region.

The Ford Ranger is now celebrating its 30th anniversary in South America, in fact, after it launched there in 1995 – one year before production of the pickup began at Pacheco. It has changed considerably over the past three decades, becoming a bit of a pioneer when the four-door model debuted in 1998, and moving to a common rail electronic injection setup for diesels in 2005 – something that wasn’t common at the time.

Those innovations continued with the debut of the Ranger’s first hands-free cell phone system in 2000, followed by the “My Connection” connectivity system in 2008, which added things like Bluetooth, USB, and iPod connections. In 2012, the all-new Ford Ranger entered production at Pacheco, and the very next year, it became the first pickup in its segment to offer standard safety features such as two airbags, ABS, stability control, traction control, adaptive load control, and trailer balancing control. The newest Ford Ranger debuted in South America in 2023, a year after Pacheco built its one-millionth example of the mid-size pickup.

“The Ford Ranger is not just a pickup, it is the reflection of Ford’s vision and commitment to innovation, quality, and technology in the region. In these thirty years it transformed the market and exceeded the expectations of our customers,” said Martín Galdeano, president of Ford South America. “The investment of 580 million dollars for its production, added to the additional investments for the manufacture of new versions, underline our commitment to offer a global product with a strong Argentine imprint that will continue to challenge the market.”

  • The Ford Ranger is now a nice size . In The initial years of the Ford Rangers, the size was somewhat small. It is a little pricey but a great truck now. I’m going to order one.
