The Ford Authority Take
Ford’s SecuriAlert feature first launched in Europe back in 2021 as a smartphone app that used a vehicle’s sensors to alert owners when someone might be trying to gain access to their vehicle via the doors, hood, or trunk. The feature then used the vehicle’s onboard FordPass Connect modem to send a push notification to the owner’s smartphone with the reason for the alert, and the vehicle’s last location. However, Ford discontinued SecuriAlert in May of 2023, and it hasn’t been seen since.
Now, this new trademark filing seems to indicate that SecuriAlert will be making a comeback at some point in the future, though it may look a bit different than the previous version. We do know that the automaker is in the midst of developing a new security system, one that stems from a now-defunct partnership with ADT. Those two companies formed a joint-venture called Canopy back in early 2022, after which it launched a pickup security camera.
However, Ford acquired Canopy fully this past May and discontinued that pickup cam, leaving it in a bit of a limbo until we discovered that The Blue Oval was working on developing a new version of that camera. It’s unclear if this new offering will utilize the SecuriAlert name, but we should know more in the very near future.
