Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an in-cabin biometric system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 9th, 2024, published on August 14th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0258278.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed quite a few patents outlining ways that it may one day incorporate biometric technology into its future vehicles, including ideas for a keyless entry keypad with a biometric system, a replacement for keys in general, a biometric authorization system, and a biometric identification system. Now, Ford has published a new patent introducing us to an idea for an in-cabin biometric system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As many are likely already aware, biometrics systems are used to capture data from a person’s unique characteristics, such as their face, fingerprints, eyes, or other features. That data can then be used to verify someone’s identify, which is precisely why Ford has looked into using such technology as a way to provide access to vehicles. In this case, moving that biometrics capability inside of a vehicle opens up another world of possibilities – it could be used to start the vehicle or activate certain features, and could be tailored specifically from user to user, based on their own unique preferences.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”

Going by this, “The Power of Sanctuary” sounds pretty invasive.
Yeah, you don’t control biometric systems — they control you!
