Traffic can be frustrating, but tailgating is never the answer, especially if all traffic is trucking along at the same speed. An impatient Ford Ranger found out the hard way that riding someone’s bumper is a terrible idea, resulting in a wreck that had absolutely no reason to happen.
The cammer, who posted their dashcam footage to the Reddit community r/IdiotsInCars, was thankfully not involved in the incident. In fact, the only vehicle that suffered any damage was the Ford Ranger. The Ranger is seen in the far right lane, bearing down on traffic much faster than it had any reason to. Traffic is slowing down in front of it, but it’s still clinging to the bumper of the vehicle just ahead, putting the pickup in a bad position when other motorists suddenly begin to slow.
At the last second, the driver of the Ford Ranger realizes that the vehicle ahead of it is braking. They abruptly swerve to the right to avoid hitting them, then panic and overcorrect right in front of the cammer. Then, the worst happens – the Ranger lilts dangerously on two wheels before going over on its side.
The Ranger lands driver’s side down, spilling the contents of its bed across the highway as it slides to the shoulder. Thankfully, the cars behind it are paying more attention than the pickup’s driver was, and they’re able to slow down and avoid slamming into them.
One commenter mentions that they travel this particular off-ramp quite often, and that it gets backed up at the same time every day, meaning the driver of the Ford Ranger had no excuse for their impatient behavior on the road.
Tailgating unfortunately happens quite often. The driver of a Ford Fusion narrowly avoided slamming the car ahead of it in a similar incident, and a Fox Body Ford Mustang was smart enough to at least pull over and wait for police after using the wrong side of the road to blast past a semi.
Including one that kickstarted his restoration business.
Another nicely-kept S197 with a couple of mods.
A literal case of digging themselves a hole.
This one has received a respray, however.
