2026 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 Debuts With GTD Aping Power

While we’re still waiting on the official unveiling of the new EcoBoost-powered Ford Mustang RTR model, that particular company is busy rolling out V8-powered versions of the S650-generation pony car. The proverbial king of that mountain has long been the Spec 5 model, though when it debuted in 2020 for RTR’s ten-year anniversary, only 10 such examples were produced. Now, the 2026 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 has debuted, and it will be offered in larger quantities, and with quite a lot more power, to boot.

The 2026 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 is certainly distinctive in terms of how it looks, thanks to the company’s first complete widebody system, which features integrated carbon fiber and composite panels. The front and rear fenders are made from composite and feature integrated tire cooling vents, as is the case with the rocker panels and front bumper extensions. Meanwhile, the front splitter, rocker splitters, rear quarter splitter, and wake towers are made from carbon fiber.

Otherwise, one will find the typical RTR upper grille with LED intakes, a lower grill, aero corners, and a decklid spoiler. Along with a graphics package, customers can choose from standard exterior hues, RTR’s Extended Color Palette, or a paint-to-sample program. Wheels consist of 20-inch RTR Aero 5 Evo forged units in Forged Charcoal, Podium Champagne, or Vapor Silver finishes, wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 305/30R20 in the front and 315/30R20 in the rear. Inside, one will find RTR Leather RECARO sport seats and a serialized dash plaque, among other special touches.

In terms of power, that’s provided by the 5.0L V8 Coyote, fortified with a 3.0L Stage 2 Whipple supercharger, which helps it crank out more than 870 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque, mated to either the six-speed manual transmission or 10-speed automatic. The new Spec 5 also gets the RTR Tactical Performance Suspension System with its 30-way adjustable front coilovers and rear dampers, paired with height-adjustable springs and adjustable front and rear sway bars, plus Brembo brakes with six-pistons up front and four in the rear.

In total, just 50 units of the 2026 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 will be built, with prices starting out at $159,999 – which includes the cost of the donor base Mustang GT with the 401A equipment group and Performance Package.
