Ford Mustang Refresh On Track For Late 2026

The all-new S650 Ford Mustang just debuted for the 2024 model year, bearing a host of updates ranging from exterior styling to interior tech and many other tweaks. Regardless, as is always the case in the automotive world, mid-cycle refreshes are inevitable, and in that regard, the famous pony car is no exception. However, it seems as if the current-generation Ford Mustang may be getting its first such update a little sooner than some folks might have guessed.

According to Automotive News, the Ford Mustang is scheduled to receive a refresh in late 2026, with its next redesign on track for 2029. As Ford Authority previously reported, The Blue Oval was originally planning to transition its iconic pony car to all-electric power for its next big redesign, but that’s no longer the case. Rather, the Mustang will remain an ICE-powered model “well into the next decade” according to this new report, which syncs up with recent comments from Ford CEO Jim Farley himself.

Back in May 2024, Farley said that “we will never make an all-electric Mustang. I look at other users of pure-electric power such as Formula E, and even companies like Rimac, and I just don’t think that would be right for Mustang. Great for other Fords – look at the worldwide success of Transit – but not for Mustang.”

Regardless, we do know that the Ford Mustang will be getting some sort of partial electrification, hybrid powertrain before 2030, based on the automaker’s plans to add a hybrid option to every model in its Ford Blue lineup by 2030. We were previously promised a V8 hybrid-powered pony car way back in January 2017 for the 2020 model year, but that still hasn’t come to fruition. As far as what we can expect from this forthcoming refresh, it should include some minor revisions, including replacing SYNC 4 with the new Ford Digital Experience software.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

    Different wheel designs.
Flared exhaust tips on GTs with the performance exhaust. The slash cut ones are an eye sore for what you pay.

    MagRide on base performance packs.
White/smoked tail lamps as an option.
Some improvements to steering feel if possible.

  2. I owned a 2024 Mustang Ecoboost Convertible for a very very short time. Not a good experience.
Ford needs to get rid of the video game instrument cluster that the dealers can’t fix.
Put a speedometer, tach, temp gauge and oil pressure and get rid of the overkill on all the tech
gadgets. Simplify the car and make it a Pony car again and lower the price!

  3. Get rid of that iPad dash. That’s what is tanking the sales.

    1. The dash is what made my wife grab one. I hate those boring dashes, give me all screen and no knobs.

  4. Yep, dump the video dash crap, put in real gauges (tach, speedo, oil pressure, temp, fuel) on all trim levels and bring back the manual transmission on the eco-boost. Lowering the price would be good but isn’t likely to happen.
