The Ford Puma has only been on sale for a few years now, but the small crossover didn’t take long to find its fair share of success in places like the UK. There, the Puma has remained one of the best-selling passenger vehicles available, and oftentimes, the top seller of all. Throughout 2025 thus far, the Ford Puma has ranked seventh in January, tenth in February, first in March, second in April, first in May, second in June, second in July, and tops across the first half of the year. In August, however, it reclaimed its place atop that same list.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Puma was the best-selling new passenger vehicle in the UK in August 2025, with 2,457 total registrations. That was good enough to beat out its arch nemesis – the Kia Sportage, which ranked second with 1,785 registrations, followed by the Tesla Model Y (1,650 sales), Tesla Model 3 (1,593), Volkswagen Tiguan (1,526), and the rest of the pack.
Through the first eight months of the year, the Ford Puma is still atop the UK’s sales charts with 33,221 registrations, with the Sportage coming in second after racking up 29,279 sales. It will be interesting to see how new EV incentives in the UK impact these results moving forward – now, the Puma Gen-E is actually cheaper than the regular Puma – but in the meantime, the overall car market in that country experienced a two percent year-over-year decline in August, finishing out the month at 82,908 sales.
“August was the best month yet this year for EV market share and, while it is often volatile due to low overall volumes, the overall trend is positive,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “September will be critical, with the new number plate factor typically driving around one in seven new car registrations for the year. There is now a vast choice of electric models across all segments and many consumers will also, for the first time in three years, benefit from a grant to help them switch to electric. With more models being added to the Government’s Electric Car grant each week, there is now every reason for drivers to make the switch, helping deliver both economic growth and decarbonization.”
