Ford Super Duty Redesign May Immediately Follow Refresh: Report

The ultra-popular – and profitable – Ford Super Duty just received a redesign for the 2023 model year, along with quite a few notable updates for the 2025 model year. However, we’re always looking ahead in the automotive world, which routinely brings about refreshes and redesigns, and in the case of the Ford Super Duty, that’s also sure to be the case before long. Previously, reports indicated that the Super Duty would get its next proper refresh in 2026, followed by a redesign in 2028, and a new report seems to continue to back up those claims.

According to Automotive News, the Ford Super Duty is now expected to get a “minor freshening” in 2026 (possibly for the 2027 model year), followed by a redesign in 2028 (perhaps for the 2029 model year). The earlier refresh would coincide with the start of Ford Super Duty production at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada, which is currently being retooled for that purpose after production of the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus ended there last year.

As for what we can expect from the future Ford Super Duty, that larger pickup has long been rumored to be in line to get a hybrid powertrain option, which would represent a first for that particular model. This report indicates that the electrified option will arrive as part of the redesign and not the refresh, which still means that it would debut before the end of the current decade.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the Ford Super Duty is one of several models that could be in line to receive an EREV powertrain option (extended range electric vehicle). Those powertrains combine a large battery pack with a gas range extender to provide both a substantial amount of all-electric driving range and a backup for longer trips, or when one is hauling or towing heavy loads.

  • Giving the SD the ability to produce power, like the F150, would be awesome. Camping, house backup, work trucks. I look forward to having 7200w power or even MORE.

  • I like to know what they did last time to complete restyle the last time?...looks the same..mabe a few more gadgets,,,The F 150 is the truck that needs a compete redo...it looks dated its the oldest one of the big three...when i say restyle..i mean every metal fender, door and body are new...not just a new grille...plus offer the Godzilla V8 family to the truck.

  • I think all of our trucks look great. The number one thing we need to change, is to figure out why we have so many recalls that either hinder sales or delivery. Recalls this year seem to be more than past years. Ford needs to figure out why they are experiencing so many and get to the root of the problem. Are most of the problems from one supplier? Well, hopefully they will figure it out.
