Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a cargo securing system that may be used in future Ford pickups, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on March 11th, 2024, published on September 11th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0282300.
In recent months, Ford has explored all sorts of ways its future pickups may be better at carrying various types of cargo, all via patents for concepts such as an accessory attachment system, base plates with power outlets, and a cross bar attachment for base plates, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a new idea, this time, for a cargo securing system that may be used in future Ford pickups, too.
Here, Ford envisions making it easier and more convenient to mount things in the bed of pickups by using this new type of cargo securing system, which would utilize a series of “stabilizers” along with a base and a stand. Those stands would be stowed away when not needed, and when they are, one could simply deploy them as a convenient way to secure all kinds of cargo. In an example provided here, we can see a bicycle that’s secured to a bracket via its front wheel, which is placed between the grooves on the bed floor – a rather simple yet potentially very useful concept.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
