Future Ford Vehicles Could Get Directional Speaker System

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a directional speaker system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.

The patent was filed on March 8^th, 2024, published on September 11^th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0287172.

Ford has published quite a few patents outlining different kinds of potential automotive sound systems in recent months, introducing us to ideas for things like a multi-vehicle audio system, a hitch mounted sound exciter, an adaptive loudspeaker system, and a system and method for targeted communication. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with another concept, this time, for a directional speaker system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.

In this case, Ford is proposing a better way to use a vehicle’s audio system when one is located outside of the vehicle, which could come in handy for things like tailgates or events where such a thing is common. However, in this case, the system would be able to detect where people are located in regard to the vehicle, and then alter the direction of that audio so that they can hear it better – and even adjust volume accordingly. It’s certainly an interesting idea, and one that we imagine quite a few folks would welcome in their vehicles, if it does indeed become a reality one day.
