In today’s world, the Ford Taurus SHO remains a hot target for collectors and enthusiasts alike, which isn’t surprising given its unique story, components, and place within automotive history. Despite this – and the fact that prices have been rising steadily as of late – quite a few folks have opted to modify their Ford Taurus SHO models in various ways, with some going to extremes in that regard. That’s certainly true of this 1993 Ford Taurus SHO wagon conversion, which just popped up for sale.
We spotted this 1993 Ford Taurus SHO wagon project up for sale on Facebook Marketplace in Louisville, Kentucky, for a mere $3,500. However, this is no gem, but rather, a vehicle that needs quite a lot of work to make perfect. Amazingly, this didn’t start out life as a wagon, either – rather, it’s a real-deal SHO sedan, mated to the rear portion of a Taurus wagon, a Frankenstein-like job that took place way back in 1997.
Along with clipping the windshield posts and the floorpans and rockers, the father/son duo that performed this operation also utilized the sedan’s rear disc brakes and drilled the hubs so that they could mount a set of 17-inch Mustang SVT Cobra wheels on the family hauler – though they’re long gone at this point. The rear bumper came from a third-party, and a Cadillac STS provided the dual exhaust system, interestingly.
Inside, the leather seats look to be in decent shape with creases but no tears, and the headliner isn’t sagging. There is a custom SHO package tray that was designed by the late Billy Scott Jr., but there’s quite a lot of work to do if one wants to get this project up and running. The seller notes that this list includes cleaning out the fuel system, adding wheels, tires, brake rotors, and pads, and the paint/bodywork is in poor shape, too.
Regardless, if someone is brave enough to take on those tasks, this Ford Taurus SHO wagon could certainly wind up being a cool and totally unique ride guaranteed to conjure up conversations everywhere it goes.
