1962 Ford Galaxie ‘Mayberry’ Sheriff Tribute Up For Auction

The Andy Griffith Show still stands as one of the most-watched TV series of its time, airing from 1960-1968 and spanning 249 episodes across eight seasons. Andy Griffith himself stars as Andy Taylor in that series, a sheriff in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. Most notably for Blue Oval fans, a number of Ford vehicles also starred in the show, including Fairlanes, Galaxies, and a few Custom sedans. As one might imagine, we’ve seen some replicas of those cars surface over the years, a list that includes this 1962 Ford Galaxie, too.

This 1962 Ford Galaxie is up for auction over at Hagerty after it was converted into a tribute to the police cruiser starring in The Andy Griffith Show, used to patrol the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. It features traditional black and white paint with police department logos on the doors, along with a light on the roof, but otherwise, this is a pretty normal looking example of the classic sedan. It rolls on a set of steel wheels fitted with covers and wrapped with Winston Californian I P205/75R14 whitewall tires.

Inside, this TV tribute features a matching black and white vinyl interior, which looks to be in good shape overall. There is some cosmetic wear and tear that we can see in the photos, and the clock reportedly isn’t working, but otherwise, it’s a pretty clean cabin, regardless.

In terms of power, that comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 292 cubic-inch V8 engine with a two-barrel carburetor, sending power back to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.

This is just the latest of several Mayberry police car replicas/tributes that we’ve seen hit the auction block in recent times, however – that list also includes a 1963 Ford Galaxie that surfaced for sale this past June, which looks a lot like this one, in fact.
