The Ford Bronco Sport is built in Mexico and sold in a variety of global markets, including that country, as well as the U.S. and South America. It has capitalized on the iconic Bronco nameplate since launching for the 2021 model year, offering consumers rugged looks and solid off-road capability for a small crossover. Now, the Bronco Sport is gaining a similar type of global rival in the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, which unfortunately won’t be sold in the U.S.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ revives a beloved nameplate from the past while looking essentially like a shrunken-down version of the regular Land Cruiser, which is sold in the states, at least. It’s a full 11 inches shorter than that model (though around 7.4 inches longer than the Bronco Sport), measuring in at 180.1 inches long, 77.2 inches wide, and roughly six feet tall, with a 101-inch wheelbase – not much bigger than a Corolla Cross, though it shares the IMV platform with the Hilux pickup and touts some off-road chops – in fact, Toyota says that wheel articulation is identical to the old 70 series.
In terms of power, that comes from a 2.7L inline-four, which churns out 161 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic and a part-time four-wheel drive system.
There are some cool features worth noting as well, including removable bumpers for those times when one needs better angles for off-roading, as well as beefed-up bracing under the floor to protect it from obstacles, and a catalog of optional accessories, such as the snorkel and roof rack seen here. Inside, there are two rows of seating with room for five.
Sadly, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ isn’t destined for North America, in general, nor even Europe, as the automaker has simply deemed it too small for the former market, at least. Following its debut at the Japan Mobility Show this week, the tiny little SUV will be built in Thailand, and will go on sale in that country, along with Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America in the first half of 2026.

First of all, this is sized like a RAV4 – 8 inches longer than a Bronco Sport. But it’s ugly as sin and the internet seems to agree. Another misstep by Toyota. Ford need not worry.
… imagine, driving up to your next drug cartel meeting in one of these. I’m guessing it has 19 cupholders …
