Having successfully told the story of new Ford Focus RS’ gestation in a multi-part YouTube series, Ford Motor Company’s performance division has turned its attention to something even more integral to its heritage: the return of the Ford GT.
You can watch Chapter 1 of the Ford GT documentary – subtitled “The Decision” – above.
In this initial portion of the doc, we hear from several elite members of the Ford leadership class: Ford Performance Director Dave Pericak, Ford CTO Raj Nair, Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford, and Board member Edsel Ford II. All four wax poetic about the innate beauty of competitive motorsport, what the GT40’s first Le Mans win meant for the company and family name five decades ago, and how the new Ford GT might help to recapture that. Their comments are underscored by the famous first movement of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 – a piece long relied upon by filmmakers looking to draw viewers into a sentimental connection.
In earnest, the music is utterly superfluous here; we all know that the return of the legendary Ford GT is a momentous occasion for the automaker, and that its entry into the IMSA WeatherTech SCC and FIA WEC celebrate the meaningful victories the GT40 enjoyed all those long years ago.
No need for emotive music, Ford; we’re right there with you.
