Autoline.TV was just live today with Andrew Kernahan, Chief Program Engineer of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator, to discuss every conceivable detail of the all-new SUV.
The re-engineered, 2018 Lincoln Navigator was unveiled last February at the 2017 New York International Auto Show – the same venue where Lincoln’s wild, gull-winged Navigator concept debuted a year prior.
The biggest change for 2018, of course, is that the new Lincoln Navigator has donned an aluminum-alloy body, taking after the latest F-150 pickup and F-Series Super Duty range. It’s powered by a second-generation, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing an estimated 450 horsepower and more than 500 lb-ft of torque – the same as the F-150 Raptor. All that will be sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel- and four-wheel-drive options available.
Amazingly, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator marks the SUV’s first ground-up redesign since the 2007 model bowed. Its recent refresh, carried out for the 2015 model year, did nothing to bolster sales. Kernahan and company hope that this all-new Navigator, with its unique interior design, luxurious features, and careful attention to sound and touch, will do the trick.
