2022 Ford Ranger Is CR's Highest Rated American Pickup Truck

Recently, a number of Blue Oval models have been bestowed with Consumer Reports' coveted recommended status thanks to high reliability rankings, including the the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E earlier this month and the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport just last week. At the same time, Ford ranked below average on CR's most recent reliability survey, while the 2022 Ford Mustang is the organization's lowest-rated American muscle car. That fate did not befall the 2022 Ford Ranger, however, which is now Consumer Reports' highest-rated American pickup truck.

As was the case with the Mach-E and Bronco Sport, the 2022 Ford Ranger earned this distinction mostly thanks to its high predicted reliability ranking. The Ranger has enjoyed predicted reliability ratings at or above average since its inception, while 2021 models enjoy a projected ranking that is higher than average. The 2022 Ranger's overall score of 62 is good enough for second on CR's list of compact pickup trucks behind the Honda Ridgeline and its score of 82, but Ford's mid-size pickup beats out every other truck on the list and is the highest-rated American model to boot.

The 2022 Ford Ranger beat out all of the rest of its competition including the Hyundai Santa Cruz and its score of 59, the Toyota Tacoma (51), Chevrolet Colorado (45), GMC Canyon (45), and Jeep Gladiator (38). The Ford Maverick has yet to be tested by Consumer Reports, while the all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier is currently being tested. The 2022 Ranger earned a 4 out of 5 in predicted reliability, as well as high marks for its fuel efficiency and maneuverable size as well. Other highlights include the Ranger's strong acceleration, large cargo area, driving experience, comfort, and value.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2022 Ranger ushers in a few changes for the new model year as the all-new, next-generation international market Ranger was just revealed. That includes the introduction of the Splash Package and the Splash Limited Edition, most notably.
