One of the more compelling features of the new, sixth-generation 2021-2022 Ford Bronco is its ability to be flat-towed, which is important for those that want to bring their Bronco along on camping trips and other excursions. However, in recent weeks, some owners have reportedly had issues with an inconsistent brake assist when flat towing their Ford Bronco due to a problem with the electronic brake booster (EBB). FoMoCo is currently working on a fix for this problem via a software update that is expected to roll out in September, but Bronco Nation recently posted a workaround that will allow owners to flat tow their SUVs in the meantime.
Owners must first place their Bronco in neutral tow mode and then open the hood, close all doors, and wait five minutes for the vehicle to enter sleep mode. Then, locate the fuse box under the hood and remove the cover before taking out both 60-amp fuses – numbers 28 and 29. From there, owners can install the supplemental braking system on the vehicle following the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Taking the Bronco out of neutral tow model requires simply following these steps in reverse and reinstalling the fuses.
This quick fix will undoubtedly prove useful for a number of Ford Bronco owners as production has ramped up significantly over the past few months. In fact, Ford Bronco sales exceeded Ford Bronco Sport sales in April, though it still trails its little brother year-to-date. Bronco sales are also starting to eat into its main rivals – the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner.
Securing a new Bronco is still proving rather difficult, however, as Ford continues to try and fill all of its existing orders. Much of this backup was caused by early hard top supplier issues, though a massive investment in correcting those problems seems to finally be righting the ship. Regardless, given how hot the Bronco still is, securing one with any sort of discount – let alone at MSRP – is essentially impossible at the moment.

I have spent 2 days trying to find out if the software update for 22 Bronco Flat Tow issue has been addressed?? Went through 4 different departments and have landed with Ford Marketing… they put the question in their chat and the answer they got was to contact Victory Climate Systems for a Neutral Tool Kit- contacted them, they ask that I tell Ford not to give out their name and number as they haven’t done those kits since 2000. I am again on the phone with Ford Marketing, and they don’t have a clue what’s up with this?? Can anyone get to a person at Ford to find out where they are on the software update.. OR should we start a “Class Action Law Suit” on behalf of Bronco owners that want to flat; who were lied to about the ease of the system?
We bought a brand new Bronco Sport 2022- This is the page out of the owners manual.
