Ford Motor Company is recalling certain units of the 2024 Ford Mustang due to an issue with the pony car’s brake fluid warning light.
The defect: in affected vehicles, the brake fluid level sensor was not properly configured after a Body Control Module (BCM) service update, which can result in a constantly illuminated brake fluid level warning indicator. This may mask an actual low brake fluid condition if the vehicle owner assumes the warning indicator is triggered because of a malfunction.
The hazards: if low brake fluid goes undetected, it could lead to loss of braking function, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is aware of five warranty claims and two field reports in the U.S. regarding a malfunctioning brake fluid warning light in the 2024 Ford Mustang. However, Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
Components: BCM software
Affected vehicles: select 2024 Ford Mustang models built at the Flat Rock Assembly plant between October 22nd, 2022 and February 8th, 2024.
Number of affected vehicles: 10
The fix: dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge to vehicle owners.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which began on June 28th, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S43.
