Back in 2023, the previous-generation Lincoln Nautilus won a Top Safety Pick Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but following the crossover’s redesign for the 2024 model year, it brought home the even more prestigious Top Safety Pick+ Award – the highest honor IIHS bestows upon vehicles. Now that the IIHS has released its list of Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ Award winners for 2025, we’re learning that the Lincoln Nautilus has once again brought home some serious hardware, too.
The Lincoln Nautilus has repeated its feat from last year, once again earning an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award, joining the Ford Mustang Mach-E in that regard. Those two are among 36 new automotive models to do so, while 12 others were awarded the lesser Top Safety Pick honor. Those 48 models represent a pretty big drop from last year’s tally of 71, which makes this accolade even more meaningful. This year, the updated moderate overlap front test adds a second dummy seated behind the driver and emphasizes back seat safety, and vehicles must earn an acceptable rating in that updated test to qualify for a Top Safety Pick Award, or a good rating to achieve Top Safety Pick+ status.
As was previously the case, vehicles must also earn good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation, which gauges performance in both daytime and nighttime conditions, to quality for either award. All trim levels of those models must also be equipped with acceptable- or good-rated headlights. The Lincoln Nautilus earned “good” scores in every single category this time around, which is the highest possible rating.
“Safety is top of mind in everything we do,” said Bob Holycross, Ford’s chief sustainability, environment and safety officer. “We’re proud of these achievements and remain committed to improving vehicle safety through rigorous testing, advanced research, and a relentless focus on real-world data.”
