New Ford Inventory Levels Grew In March 2025

Ford inventory levels have remained among the highest of any automotive brand for quite some time now, a stark contrast to the dark days of the pandemic, when it was hard to find anything sitting on dealer lots. Much has changed since then, and even as new vehicle sales remain robust, high transaction prices are still keeping some shoppers at bay, while leftover 2024 model year vehicles continue to pile up. Meanwhile, Ford inventory levels actually increased in March 2025, too.

According to new data from Cox Automotive, Ford inventory levels closed out March at a 99 day’s supply, which was the ninth highest of any automotive brand – behind only Jaguar, Lincoln, Dodge, Ram, Infiniti, Mini, Jeep, and Land Rover, as well as above the industry average of 70 days. It’s also far higher than many Japanese automakers – Lexus posted a mere 30 days’ supply last month, Toyota stood at 32 days, and Honda had a 46 days’ supply at the conclusion of March.

Ford inventory levels surged to a 138 days’ supply at the end of January to kick off the new year, but plunged all the way down to 91 days in February before growing slightly last month. That wasn’t the case with the automotive market as a whole, however. Rather, the total supply of new vehicles on dealer lots across the U.S. finished March at 2.69 million units, which is 10.2 percent fewer than the 2.99 million units present at the beginning of the month, and down 2.4 percent from a year ago.

Meanwhile, sales grew by 17.2 percent in March compared to February, and were up 11.9 percent versus last year. Much of this surge in sales and resulting decline in inventory can be attributed to consumers purchasing vehicles in response to fears that tariffs will increase prices in the near future, and that figures to continue to be the case in the coming months, unless something changes.
