The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been around for a few years now after launching for the 2021 model year, and has found its footing in the ever-growing mid-size all-electric crossover space. Though it has its fair share of skeptics – many of whom aren’t fans of EVs, nor the fact that Ford slapped the beloved Mustang moniker on one – the Mach-E still has its fair share of fans as well, many of whom work at The Blue Oval itself. Turns out, one of those folks is Ford Vice Chair John Lawler, who apparently uses his Ford Mustang Mach-E as a daily driver.
“I drive a Mach-E every day. I love it,” Lawler said at the Bank of America Securities 2025 Automotive Summit. “Just once you get into an electric vehicle and the handling and the feel and everything, it’s amazing. But again, like most customers out there, if you want to go on a trip above 300 miles, you’ve got to figure out how to charge. So that infrastructure, range anxiety that’s there. But I also have an F-150, and so I love to drive that, but if I can get my wife out of it ’cause she loves it, and a Bronco.”
Lawler certainly isn’t alone in that regard, as Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford reportedly didn’t want to give up the Ford Mustang Mach-E prototype he was driving around prior to the production model’s release. “We had had to pry it out of his hands,” said Hau Thai-Tang, then-chief product development officer at Ford. Mach-E design and production teams had to plead for the executive to return his Mustang Mach-E prototype, but Ford still requested an extension, in fact.
A couple of years later, Ford CEO Jim Farley also went so far as to say that the Mach-E was a superior vehicle compared to the Ford Edge, which has since been discontinued. “Forget about the cost switching. We know it’s a better product, except for maybe the range,” Farley said. “So the cost between an Edge with a really efficient EcoBoost engine, 10-speed transmission, and a Mach-E, they’re almost the same product in terms of category. The Mach-E is a much better product.”

The Mach-E is truly an amazing driving experience. Having owned a LOT of vehicles from quite a few different vendors, including BMW and Mercedes, Subaru (WRX), Lexus, etc, including some well known favorites and cult classics (like the WRX again), my wife and I both agree that, hands down, our Mach-e Rally is the most overall amazing vehicle we have EVER owned.
