Over the years, Ford’s SYNC software has existed in several forms, changing and evolving along with technology in general. As such, we’ve already seen the first couple of iterations of SYNC enjoy retirement, replaced by newer versions as the years tick by. That’s quickly happening with SYNC 3 as well, some time after SYNC 4 made its own debut, as several Ford models have ditched it as of late. Now, the 2026 Ford Transit lineup is set to follow suit.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the 2026 Ford Transit will add SYNC 4 with a 12-inch infotainment display as standard equipment across the entire lineup, along with a new eight-inch instrument cluster. Previously, some Transit vans were still using a version of SYNC 3 with a four-inch display, though it’s one of the very last Blue Oval models to do so. Now, the popular full-size van will move on from SYNC 3 altogether, joining much of the rest of the current Ford lineup.
As Ford Authority previously reported, we’ve recently seen a pair of Blue Oval vehicles ditch SYNC 3 and smaller screens in favor of larger displays and SYNC 4 over the past couple of years. That includes the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick, which debuted with a 13.2-inch infotainment screen as standard, running SYNC 4, which was also the case with the updated-for-2025 Ford Bronco Sport, too.
As for the Ford Transit, it originally gained SYNC 4 and the 12-inch infotainment screen as an option for the 2022 model year, though those changes didn’t apply universally across the entire lineup. It was offered as standard equipment on the Passenger Van XLT, the Crew Van, Cargo Van, and Passenger Van XL configurations equipped with the 360-Degree Camera with Split-View and Front Washer or High-Resolution Digital Camera. Additionally, SYNC 4 was added as an option on Chassis Cab and Gas Engine Cutaway models.
