Given the fact that the Ford F-150 routinely ranks as one of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S., it’s no surprise that the pickup is also a popular target among thieves. In fact, the F-150 continues to rank as one of the most-stolen vehicles in America year-after-year, impacting owners, dealers, and even The Blue Oval itself in a major way. Turns out, even local fire departments have to remain diligent among this ongoing trend as well, as one of those entities recently found out the hard way when its Ford F-150 fire truck was stolen.
According to My Northwest, the Snohomish County Fire Department in Washington State has had not just one, but two different vehicles stolen in just the past week. The latest was a Ford F-150 fire truck, which was on the scene at a residential fire when a thief took off in the pickup. Luckily, police were able to locate the F-150 not too long after that happened, but it did have some minor damage in the form of a scrape on the front bumper.
The fire department noted that the Ford F-150 was left running in order to keep its emergency lights on, as is standard practice for public safety purposes. With personnel no more than 25 feet away, a man still decided to hop in and take off, however, at which point he struck another vehicle. South County Fire Chief Bob Eastman stated that the department is “exploring solutions to make our fleet more secure, including potential changes to vehicle engineering, policies and training. We are thankful that no one was hurt and the damage was minimal in this case. We will take appropriate actions to protect these vital services for our community.”
Police haven’t found the person that committed that particular crime yet, but it happened right after someone stole an Everett Fire Department pumper truck and took it for a bit of a joyride. That vehicle was parked in front an apartment building when someone stole it and crashed into 14 different vehicles, tearing up lawns and knocking over street signs in the process. The perpetrator in that case hasn’t been located yet, either.
