Following the debut of the redesigned, S650-generation 2024 Ford Mustang, we’ve begun seeing the new pony car surface at more than one police department across the U.S. It’s a bit of a throwback to the Fox Body generation, a time when law enforcement was keen to use the Mustang to chase down speeders and instill a healthy dose of doubt into any criminal thinking about fleeing the long arm of the law. Now, another agency is adding Ford Mustang GT coupes to its fleet for those very same purposes – Virginia State Police.

The Virginia State Police just unveiled their new S650 Ford Mustang GT coupes, of which it’s adding several to its fleet for patrolling purposes in the coming weeks. Those models feature a unique livery with silver paint, blue stripes, plus state trooper and Virginia State Police script, so there’s no mistaking them for civilian models. They’re certainly nice to look at here, but we imagine that folks won’t feel the same way when one is in their rear-view mirror.

Other than VSP, there are quite a few agencies that have added new Ford Mustang GTs to their police fleets since the newest pony car debuted some time ago. That began after the North Carolina State Highway Patrol purchased a couple dozen 2024 Ford Mustang GT coupes, followed by the Georgia State Patrol and South Carolina Highway Patrol, to name just a few in that initial flurry.

Earlier this month, we also saw the Ford Mustang make a return to Florida Highway Patrol’s fleet for the first time since the Special Service Package (SSP) model of the mid-1990s, in fact, sporting the same black and tan paint scheme that made its predecessor quite famous. It’s somewhat hard to believe that the Mustang has been absent from that lineup for so long – especially after FHP has added other performance cars, including the Chevy Corvette, in recent years, but it’s finally righting that particular oversight.

  • Beautiful...and how many of those yahoos in polyester know how to drive it, right?

  • Sounds like the good 'ole Fox Body days! The SSP Coupes were used as pursuit vehicles also.

    • No, they need these Mustangs to pursuit Corvettes and all those imported sports cars that break traffic laws but never get caught.

  • The hundreds of thousands spent on these 12 cars could've fed many hungry people, provided rides for the disabled, assisted disabled vets in finding services, just saying.

  • Fire those Pony's up, hold on they have Super Policeman Ball Tickets to pass out with the lucky citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Head 'em up and move 'em out.
