The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo hit the compact pickup scene with one goal: to revive the street truck craze of the mid-’80s. The high-performance Maverick has thus far proved itself a formidable competitor, prompting YouTuber Sam CarLegion to throw it on track against a Mazda3 Turbo and Kia K4 GTLine, just to see if the sporty compact pickup can keep up with the herd.
The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo uses the turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost I4, good for 250 brake horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, tipping the scales at 3,700 pounds. Comparatively, the K4 GTLine, which utilizes a turbocharged 1.6L I4 itself, making 190 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, and weighs just over 3,100 pounds, making it much lighter than the Maverick Lobo. Finally, the Mazda3 Turbo is fitted with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 making 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, weighing 3,300 pounds.
First up, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is pitted against the K4 in a roll race. The Maverick lunges out in front, finishing over a car-length in front of the K4. There’s almost no competition. A standing start drag race produces closer results, and the Kia puts up a little bit more of a fight this time. It’s still the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo just ahead at the line.
Fresh off its victory against the Kia K4, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is thrown on track against the Mazda3. While they’re fairly evenly matched, the Maverick Lobo experiences its first loss, falling in behind the Mazda3. From a standing start, the Maverick Lobo lags, although it does start to cut the distance once it has some momentum behind it. However, it runs out of time to pass the Mazda3, and loses to the sedan once again.
Even so, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo didn’t give away the victory, proving that it’s an extremely quick ride.
In another matchup, CarLegion pitted two Ford Mustang coupes against a Ford Focus RS and a BMW M2 to find out which one was the fastest of the bunch.
